Research associate
A Research Associate level position is available immediately at the Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York (MSRCNY). Applicants should demonstrate their capabilities to work in any of the following specific areas with relevance to MS: (1) Immunology; (2) Glial biology; or (3) Myelin or lipid biology/biochemistry. Candidate will be expected to lead an independent research project, collaborate with other MSRCNY scientists, and train and supervise research technicians. Candidates should have a PhD with relevant postgraduate experience. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and should demonstrate ability to work as a team. Neuropathologist
A Research Associate or Research Scientist level position is available immediately for a research neuropathologist at the Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York (MSRCNY). Projects will be aimed at understanding pathogenic mechanisms of MS through analysis of human tissue as well as animal models of demyelinating disease and neurodegeneration. Research pathologist will have access to cutting edge equipment and techniques, including laser capture microdissection and confocal microscopy, located in the MSRCNY pathology laboratory. Candidate will be expected to lead an independent research program, collaborate with and provide technical support for other MSRCNY scientists, and train and supervise research technicians. Candidates should have a PhD, MD, or equivalent with relevant postgraduate experience in human and/or veterinary neuropathology. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and should demonstrate ability to work as a team. Research Assistant, posted January 2010: The Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York has an immediate opening for a Research Assistant to perform a variety of immunology, molecular biology, and cell biology assays. Candidate must have a basic understanding of biochemistry and molecular biological techniques, and be capable of working with animal models. Previous laboratory experience is preferred. Additionally, the candidate should be knowledgeable in data processing and computer usage for data analysis and collection. Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, as well as good human relations skills with the ability to interact and work well with others, is essential. Tissue Culture Technician
The Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York invites applications for Tissue Culture Technician beginning May 1, 2009. The candidate will work with a team of researchers utilizing mouse and human embryonic stem cells, neural stem cells, oligodendroglial progenitor cells, and bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells to promote remyelination and neuronal regeneration in mouse models of multiple sclerosis (shiverer and EAE). The work will primarily involve tissue culture work under sterile conditions, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry; performs sectioning of paraffin embedded brain sections; prepares reagents; record keeping, and related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory. The applicant should have 3+ year of experience with tissue culture work, ability to work independently under minimal supervision, be familiar with basic laboratory techniques, ability to research the literature and present experimental data, to follow safety regulations, and to train others.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's and/or master's degree in biology-related field and at least 3-year of relevant tissue culture experience. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Preferred qualifications: Experience with embryonic stem cells, immunostaining and imaging techniques and excellent record-keeping skills are highly desirable.
