Violaine K. Harris, PhD
Assistant Research Scientist
Dr. Harris has a longstanding interest in the mechanisms by which cells differentiate. At the MS Research Center, she is developing models of autologous transplantation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into a non-human primate model of multiple sclerosis, as well as studying the environmental stimuli and the specific transcription factor activation required for MSC trans-differentiation into cells potentially capable of remyelination.
Dr. Harris received her PhD in Pharmacology from Georgetown University, and her BA in Biochemistry/Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Prior to joining the Center, she was a research associate in the MS Research & Treatment Center at Roosevelt Hospital from 2004-2006, and a postdoctoral fellow in the Derald H. Ruttenberg Cancer Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center (NY) from 1999-2004.
